The first fixture of 2026 was a cold one. Wokingham welcomed Aylesbury FC to The Emmbrook School for the second round of the plate competition.
The game was end to end entertainment. A real battle between the teams, Aylesbury had a lot of pace and Wokingham played excellent collective football.
Wokingham remained disciplined and consistent throughout the game, keeping possession and working as a team to create chance after chance with little luck in front of goal. Lady luck was not on Wokingham’s side today but that did not stop them from being ahead of Aylesbury twice from goals score by Ella Traynor Smith.
The game finished 2-2 and went to penalties to determine who moved on to the next stage of the plate. After an agonisingly long penalty shootout Aylesbury won 10-9.
The game was a real show of the development, discipline and teamwork that the Sumas have. They created more chances than the opposition throughout and played very good football. The score line does not do the team justice and the coaches Shai and Sarah are very proud of the display shown today!
Player of the match was Ella Traynor Smith for her end to end play. 90 minutes of battling, creating chances and working her socks off for the team!
Thankyou to all those who came to support the ladies, it really means a lot to have support on the side-line.
The next fixture is against Finchampstead at Lowther Road on Sunday 18th January. The clubhouse will be open so why not grab a drink and enjoy watching a fantastic game of football!
