Luke Littler’s 4–2 win over former world champion Rob Cross has put him into the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championship — but the real talking point of the night wasn’t just the darts. It was how he reacted to the crowd.
Because the Ally Pally audience? They were loudly backing Cross. And Littler — still only 18 — was booed again and again.
After sealing victory, he fired back with a cool but pointed line:
“You guys pay for tickets and you pay for my prize, so thanks for booing me.”
Confidence? Sarcasm? Or a sign the noise really did get to him?
Even Littler has admitted the atmosphere affected him at times. And to be fair — who wouldn’t feel it? He’s a teenager carrying the expectations of a sport. But when you’re world champion, every reaction becomes part of the story.
“People might say I have not matured, but try and be in my position. I can still learn a lot. I can learn how to deal with the crowd, not let as much emotion out, just keep it all in me until that final dart. That’s the first time I’ve been at the world championships and the crowd have not wanted me to win. I will expect the worst on New Year’s Day and whatever happens will happen”
On the oche he was still sensational, averaging over 106 and rattling off some outrageous legs — including a spell where he averaged 125 in a single set. So the boos didn’t stop his performance. If anything, he seemed to thrive on it.
But as the crowds get louder, you’re left wondering:
will he keep leaning into the defiance — or learn to tune it all out?
Either way, he’s compulsory viewing. And as he heads into the quarter-finals on New Year’s Day, the big question is: calm champion — or fired-up teenager?
