Keeping your driving licence up-to-date is a legal requirement, and the DVLA now makes most services simple to complete online. Whether you’ve moved house, changed your name, or your licence is due for renewal — here’s how Wokingham motorists can stay compliant.

🟢 Change Your Address on Your Driving Licence (Free)

If you’ve moved within Wokingham — or anywhere else — you must update your address with the DVLA.

✔ It’s free
✔ Takes about 5 minutes
✔ Your car insurance may be invalid if you don’t update it

👉 Update your address here:
https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence

You’ll need:

  • Your driving licence

  • Your National Insurance number (if available)

  • Your passport (optional)

Your new licence will be posted to you — your old one remains valid until it arrives.

🔁 Renew Your Driving Licence

Most drivers must renew their licence every 10 years.
Drivers aged 70+ must renew every 3 years (renewal is free at 70+).

👉 Renew online here:
https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence

Reasons you may need to renew include:

  • Your licence is expiring

  • You’ve lost or damaged it

  • You’ve changed your name or photo

You’ll need:

  • A valid UK passport (for photo upload — optional but helpful)

  • Your National Insurance number (if available)

  • Your current driving licence

👩‍⚕️ Medical or Health Changes

If a medical condition may affect your ability to drive, you must tell the DVLA.

👉 Check guidance & report here:
https://www.gov.uk/health-conditions-and-driving

Examples include:

  • Heart conditions

  • Epilepsy

  • Sleep apnoea

  • Vision problems

  • Strokes

Failure to report serious conditions can lead to fines.

📅 Driving Test Booking Changes — Coming Spring 2026

Learner drivers in Wokingham should be aware of confirmed booking changes:

✔ Only learners themselves will be able to book tests
✔ Only two test changes allowed before cancelling & rebooking

👉 GOV.UK guidance here:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/changes-to-driving-test-booking-rules-in-2026

This aims to stop bots & third-party resellers blocking appointment slots.

⚠️ Avoid unofficial websites

Only use GOV.UK for licence services.

🚫 Avoid look-alike websites charging fees
🚫 Avoid adverts promising “priority” services
🚫 Never share payment or ID details with unofficial sites

The official site always begins with:

🛑 Penalties — What Happens if You Don’t Update?

You could face:

  • Fines

  • Insurance problems

  • Issues with police roadside checks

  • Delays if you need to replace your licence

So it’s worth checking your licence today.

🇬🇧 Local Reminder for Wokingham Drivers

If you live in:

📍 Wokingham
📍 Bracknell
📍 Reading
📍 Woodley
📍 Earley
📍 Finchampstead

— the rules apply exactly the same as the rest of the UK.
