Born Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot in Paris on 28 September 1934, Bardot became one of the most recognised and controversial figures in 20th-century cinema.

From Film Star to International Icon

Bardot began her career as a model before moving into acting. She rose to international fame in the 1950s and 1960s, most notably for her role in the 1956 film And God Created Woman, which cemented her reputation as a symbol of beauty and sensuality in cinema.

Over her film career, she appeared in dozens of French and international productions and remained a defining presence in European cinema through the 1960s.

Life After Acting

Bardot retired from acting in 1973 and devoted herself to animal rights activism. In 1986, she founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Welfare and Protection of Animals, which carried on her work campaigning against cruelty to animals.

Her foundation confirmed her death on 28 December 2025. No cause of death has been made public.

Legacy and Public Reaction

News of Bardot’s passing has been widely reported by major international outlets and acknowledged by broadcasters including the BBC. Her influence stretched beyond cinema into activism and popular culture. Facebook

French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to Bardot on social media, describing her as a “legend of the century.

A Complex and Lasting Influence

Though she left the screen more than five decades ago, Bardot continued to be a figure of fascination:

  • Her film work helped define an era of French cinema and influenced generations of actors and filmmakers. Wikipedia

  • Her animal welfare work through her foundation made her a prominent voice in global animal rights activism. Wikipedia

  • Her public statements and political views in later years were often controversial and widely discussed.

Brigitte Bardot’s passing marks the end of a remarkable life that spanned international stardom, cultural influence, and decades of advocacy for animal protection.
