The BRIT Awards made history this weekend as the UK’s biggest music celebration moved outside London for the first time — delivering a star-studded night of performances, tributes and major wins.

Held on Saturday 28 February at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena, the 2026 ceremony marked a new chapter for British music while showcasing some of the industry’s biggest names and rising stars. (Wikipedia)

A Landmark Year for the BRITs

For nearly five decades the awards had been synonymous with London, making this year’s northern move a significant moment for the music industry and fans alike. The ceremony, hosted once again by comedian Jack Whitehall, celebrated the best British and international music released during 2025.

The event blended global superstars with emerging talent, reinforcing the UK’s reputation as one of the world’s leading music hubs.

Olivia Dean Sweeps the Awards

Singer-songwriter Olivia Dean emerged as the clear winner of the night, collecting four major awards including:

  • Artist of the Year
  • Album of the Year
  • Song of the Year
  • Pop Act

Her album The Art of Loving and duet Rein Me In with Sam Fender helped secure her dominance, capping a remarkable year that also included international recognition. (The Guardian)

Dean’s success reflected a growing shift toward soulful, genre-blending British pop resonating with audiences across generations.

Harry Styles Opens a Star-Studded Show

Opening the ceremony was global superstar Harry Styles, returning to the BRITs stage with the first live performance of his new single Aperture. The performance set the tone for an evening packed with spectacle and collaborations.

According to organisers, the 2026 lineup featured an “incredible” range of performers, including:

  • Olivia Dean
  • Wolf Alice
  • Rosalía
  • RAYE
  • Alex Warren
  • SOMBR
  • HUNTR/X (EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI)
  • Mark Ronson

The night concluded with a special tribute performance honouring rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. (Brits)

Emotional Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came during a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who received a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

Robbie Williams fronted an all-star performance alongside musicians who had played in Osbourne’s band, celebrating the legacy of the Black Sabbath icon and his influence on generations of artists. (AP News)

Other Big Winners

The awards reflected the diversity of modern British music, with major wins across genres:

  • Sam Fender – Alternative/Rock Act
  • Dave – Hip-Hop/Rap Act
  • Wolf Alice – Group of the Year
  • Lola Young – Breakthrough Artist
  • Rosalía – International Artist
  • PinkPantheress – Producer of the Year (first woman to win the award)
  • Noel Gallagher – Songwriter of the Year

Scottish singer-songwriter Jacob Alon also picked up the prestigious Critics’ Choice Award, highlighting emerging talent tipped for major success.

A Celebration of British Music’s Future

Industry observers say the 2026 BRIT Awards showcased both established icons and the next generation of artists, from chart-topping pop stars to indie and international performers.

The move to Manchester was widely viewed as symbolic — reflecting a broader, more inclusive vision of British music beyond the capital.

With standout performances, emotional tributes and record-breaking wins, the 2026 ceremony reinforced why the BRIT Awards remain one of the most influential nights in global music.
