Sewage tankers have been brought into Swallowfield following heavy rainfall and river flooding in the area.
A spokesperson for the company on site said:
“There is no water shortage and residents are not without water. The tankers are being used to remove sewage and transfer it away from the area to prevent any risk of pollution.”
The company said high river levels have made repair work difficult, while a valve within the sewage system is also not functioning correctly, increasing pressure on the network.
“Using tankers helps us relieve that pressure and reduces the risk of sewage entering the environment,” the spokesperson added.
Tankers will remain in the village until water levels recede and engineers can safely carry out repairs.
