  • Brand new business and news service, ‘My Wokingham’, aims to put every local business online.
  • The service has listed over a thousand businesses so far, with each having its own dedicated page on the website.
  • It will also publish local events and news, led by a team of community writers.

About the Platform

‘My Wokingham’ is a brand new business and news service, aimed at everyone and anyone who lives and works in Wokingham, Berkshire. The brainchild of Wokingham-based digital entrepreneur, Nick Marr, the service focuses on helping connect small businesses, as well as charities, with locals in the area. Led by a team of community writers, the platform also publishes local events, and news, as well as information about restaurants, shops and discounts.

The platform currently has over a thousand businesses listed in an online directory, with each having its own dedicated space on the website. Local business owners can claim their own page, allowing them to manage the page personally and promote their services or products. The easy-to-use navigation tool allows users to search businesses by category. Find information about local beauty businesses, pets, estate agents, and environmentally-friendly companies.

Submit Your Own News and Announcements

As well as having employed community news writers, ‘My Wokingham’ encourages residents to submit their own news, photos, videos and announcements on the site. Local charities are encouraged to list fundraising events and announcements, as well as general news, at zero fees.

Nick, who has been featured in the Financial Times as an FT entrepreneur, says:

“I love living in Wokingham and with its community feel, countryside and array of small businesses. Running a digital marketing business I can see how small businesses struggle to maintain an online presence, My Wokingham is a free place for them to own a page where potential clients can find them. We also want to help local charities make a bigger impact when they need to publicise events.”

A Database of Local Photography

The ‘My Wokingham’ platform is also building a large online gallery of photos of Wokingham across a variety of categories, such as countryside; events; nature; people; sport; news and restaurants. Head photographer Paul King, says:

“I have been a photographer for over 30 years. My photos have been published in the daily and national newspapers and on local ITV and BBC News. I am now excited to help bring a fresh new platform to Wokingham and to show Wokingham through the lens of a camera”
