A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his twenties died following a stabbing in Lower Earley on Friday afternoon.
Thames Valley Police said officers were called at around 4.25pm on 23rd May 2026 , following multiple reports that a man had been stabbed in an alleyway in the area.
Emergency services, including police officers and medical professionals, attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital. Tragically, he later died from his injuries.

The man’s next of kin have been informed. Formal identification and post-mortem procedures have not yet been completed.
A scene watch remains in place covering the alleyway between Cutbush Lane and Kensington Close, as well as the alleyway between Cutbush Lane and Gypsy Lane, while officers continue their enquiries.



A teenage boy from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Nick Hind, of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said:
“Our thoughts remain with the man’s next of kin following his death.
“We understand this murder will be of concern to the community, but we do not believe there is any threat to the wider public.
“We are in the early stages of a complex investigation, but we are following several lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances around the murder.
“Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence in the area while we investigate, and we would advise anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our uniformed officers.
“I would ask that at this time people refrain from speculation on social media or other mediums whilst we investigate to find the truth behind this incident and loss of life.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
