Wokingham’s zero waste shop, Maya’s Refillables celebrated its third birthday at the weekend with free fizz and cake.
Maya’s Refillables in Peach Place offers a whole range of alternatives that helps reduce your environmental footprint and consumption of single-use plastic whether in your household or at work. One part consists of a refill station where you can refill empty containers with vegan, animal-cruelty free detergents and body care products, sourced in the UK from family run businesses. The other part of the shop offers a range of alternatives to your daily needs that do not contain any microplastics or are not wrapped in plastic.
Maya regularly gives talks at conferences and companies who are looking into reducing their carbon footprint and is involved in regular local stirring committees and groups to help with concrete actions such as litter picking, mass unwraps as well as local events for a better community.
Maya said: “Thank you all for joining us yesterday, such a great day of celebrations and and it once more confirmed how people in this community really do care about the environment, their health and supporting small and local. Special thanks to yesterday’s super crew and to the whole eco-team, you’re my heroes!
“Already we can count over 127,000 containers refilled and counting! 127,000 represents the same amount of CO2 emissions as:
– 18 transatlantic flights
– what 1,140 mature trees (a forest!) would absorb in a year
– the annual electricity consumption of 30 UK homes (two adults, two children)
“Well done everyone! Together let’s keep up the good work and let’s keep making a REAL difference!”
