Today we celebrate the life of Phil Goodyear — a man who could light up any room simply by walking into it. Full of fun and enthusiasm, Phil had a natural ability to entertain, uplift, and bring people together. His energy was infectious, and his presence unforgettable.
A proud resident of Woodley, Phil was a familiar and much-loved figure across the local community. He was a key part of the team at My Wokingham and a contributor to Wokingham Today. As a talented photographer and journalist, he had a gift for storytelling and capturing moments that truly mattered. He was also a true team player — always supportive, positive, and generous with his time.
With a background in performing arts, it was no surprise that Phil thrived in front of an audience. He was, at heart, an entertainer. Back in 2003, he was a central figure in Wokingham’s Got Talent, helping drive the success of the show that went on to gain national TV attention. The event even featured guest judges from ITV Meridian — a testament to how special it became — and Phil was right at the centre of it all, bringing his trademark humour, charisma, and passion.

His talents stretched even further. Phil was a well-known local quizmaster, a DJ who brought joy to every event, and a broadcaster on B Radio, entertaining listeners across the Thames Valley. Whatever he did, he did it with heart, creativity, and a genuine love for people.
But more than anything, Phil was a friend — someone who truly loved life and everyone in it. He had a rare ability to connect with people, to make them smile, and to leave them better for having known him.
His passing is incredibly hard to understand, and words can never fully express the sense of loss. What remains are the memories of a young, multi-talented man who gave so much to his community and to those around him.

Rest in peace, Phil. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
