Wed 7 January 2026 — Emergency services responded to a major collision on the A3290 slip road near the Sutton Seeds roundabout in Earley just after 8:30 am today, involving a school coach and a Reading bus.
Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were all at the scene. The ambulance service has confirmed that 18 people were injured in the incident — including nine school children and the coach driver who sustained minor injuries. Eight adults on the bus were also hurt.

Crews initially attended after reports of a vehicle fire and found the bus engine alight following the collision. Firefighters spent over two hours extinguishing the blaze and assisting injured passengers before handing them over to ambulance teams.
SCAS said that most casualties were treated at the scene, but one child and one adult may require further hospital treatment for their injuries.
Both Horseman Coaches (operator of the school coach) and Reading Buses confirmed their vehicles were involved. Horseman Coaches stressed that there are no reports of life-threatening injuries and that they are supporting those affected.
Thames Valley Police have closed the A3290 at the Sutton Seeds Roundabout as investigations continue and have urged drivers to avoid the area if possible due to ongoing disruption.
The collision occurred amid icy conditions on the road, with black ice believed to have contributed to the incident — a warning that follows similar weather-related issues across the region this morning.
Drivers should expect delays and are being reminded to take extra care on winter roads.
