South Berkshire’s hockey teams demonstrated impressive form this week, with the ladies’ squads continuing their commanding presence at the top of their respective leagues.
Kicking off the action at Cantley Park, the Ladies’ 4th team set a resilient tone, battling Amersham to a 1-1 stalemate, courtesy of Clare Owen’s equalizer. Despite the draw being their first point dropped this season, they confidently maintain the top position.
The Ladies’ 3rd team followed suit, ending in a deadlock against Reading, with Clare Plant netting the crucial goal for South Berkshire, leaving them stationed at 9th in the division.
The Men’s 1st team faced a formidable Oxford University side. Despite a strong start, Berkshire’s injury-plagued squad succumbed 0-4, yet they remain steadfast at 9th place.
In a thrilling encounter, the Ladies’ 2nd team traded blows with Sonning, culminating in a 3-3 draw, with Emily Powell scoring twice and Eve Kelly securing a crucial point, keeping them at 8th in the standings.
Under the evening lights, the Men’s 4th team outshone Oxford University with a 4-1 victory, propelled by Tom Scott and Mike Baylis’s goals, catapulting them to 3rd in the division.
At Birch Hill, the Men’s 5ths held Wycombe to a 1-1 draw, with Sam Moss on the scoresheet, placing them 6th in the league.
Away from home, the Men’s 2nd and 3rd teams garnered a point and a win against Henley and Oxford, respectively, with notable goals from Calum Miller, Ryan Kaley, and Mike Longson, securing their upper-division rankings.
The Men’s 6th team clinched a narrow victory at Wycombe, with AJ netting the winner, situating them comfortably at 4th.
Not to be outdone, the Ladies’ First team rebounded with a 1-2 triumph at Marlow, thanks to Bella Pio and Sarah Kelly’s efforts, maintaining their 4th place standing.
Dominating their matchup, the Ladies’ 5th team romped to a 0-6 victory at Wycombe, with Dani Osman and Leila Sanders bagging braces, and Laura Woolford and Chloe Hazell contributing to the scoreline, keeping them ahead in the league.
The Berkshire Vets also celebrated success, securing a 4-1 victory over Camberley.
Capping off the weekend, South Berkshire’s mixed team dazzled in the Mixed Championship against Sonning, with Bella Pio achieving a hat trick and contributions from Sarah Kelly, Bee Rooke, Conner Anderson, and Rob Badley leading to a resounding 7-0 win.
It was a week of tenacity and teamwork, showcasing South Berkshire’s depth and determination across all age groups and divisions.
