There was a huge turnout for the Laurel Park FC fun day at the weekend. The event saw the teams getting together for a ‘friendly’ competition as well as having their end-of-season presentations.
Current chairman Ian Jobson said: “We have had a mega turnout today. Everyone had a smile on their faces and there’s been a lot of good football from the U6s to U18s. It is so important to promote exercise in youngsters. It helps not only their physical health but their mental health as well.”
During the fun day they had a charity boot stall that was almost a sell-out. People were asked to donate pre-loved boots they have grown out of which were sold for charity. This year one of their managers had suffered from a stroke so the Stroke Association was nominated.
Welcoming everyone to the day, Ian said: “We started the season celebrating off the back of a fantastic European Championships win for the England Women’s team which inspired our ‘Lionesses Legacy’ sessions. These gave nearly 50 primary school-aged girls the opportunity to experience organised football sessions, some for the very first time, and has led to two new U7 girls’ teams for next season.
“The club continues to drive the development of girls’ football in Berkshire, and we are extremely proud that our membership is now near enough a 50/50 boys and girls split.”
