Hockey resumed at Cantley Park this Saturday, featuring three home matches and two away games for South Berkshire, which had been postponed due to the cold snap before Christmas.
The Men’s third team engaged in a top-of-the-table clash against Oxford. Following an entertaining yet goalless first half, Berks secured a 3-1 victory with goals from Kav Nijjer, Alex Cook, and Will Thompson. This result narrowed the gap to one point behind Oxford in second place and propelled Berks to third place, surpassing Witney and Banbury after 10 games.
The Men’s fifth team replicated the score against Amersham with a 3-1 triumph, thanks to goals from Chris Davidson and two from Matt Humphreys. This outcome elevated Berkshire to seventh place in the standings.
The Ladies third team faced off against Henley, where an Annabelle Lalonde goal made the difference in a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Berks. This win propelled Berkshire above Henley, securing a tenth-place position in the division.
The Men’s second team traveled to Marlow for their rescheduled match, suffering a 4-2 defeat despite goals from Rob Pace and Pat Diplock. Berks maintained their seventh position in the league after 11 games.
The Ladies 1st team continued their impressive debut season in Premier Division 2, securing a 2-2 draw away at Chichester with goals from Luci Grittiths-Jones and Bello Pio, holding Berkshire in fourth place.
In an earlier match at Cantley, the Men’s first team lost a thrilling seven-goal encounter against Basingstoke, concluding with a 3-4 scoreline in a friendly match featuring goals from Sam Fox-Harvey and two from Josh Cowell.
All eleven teams are set to return to league action next week, with home fixtures for the Men’s 1st, 4th, and 5th at Cantley. The 3rd team will be playing at Birch Hill, the Men’s second team at Oxford, and the sixths away at Staines.
The Ladies 1st, 3rd, and 5th teams are all playing away, while the second team is at home against Oxford, and the 4th team is at home against Harlow.
