Bearwood Primary School welcomed a member of their alumni, Dr Sean Beer, back to the school when he and his wife visited on Thursday 18th January. Dr Beer attended the then Bearwood County Primary School from 1968 to 1974.
Dr Beer was visiting on behalf of himself and his two siblings, Mr Clive Beer and Ms Susan Beer, to present a picture to the school. The picture, purchased by his parents Albert and Vivian Beer, was painted by a former Headmaster’s wife, Mrs Cynthia Sparrow, and is of the original school house, built by the Walter family in 1847.
Whilst at the school Dr Beer was able to tour the buildings, sharing with the children happy memories he has of times spent in each of their classrooms.
Dr Beer was most impressed by the engaging and enthused response he received from the children when he spoke at an assembly about what life was like at Bearwood Primary School in the 1960s and 70s, telling them of all the positive changes that have taken place since his time at the school and how not only the school but also the local area has dramatically changed over the years.
The assembly was later described by a child in Year 1 as ‘the best assembly ever’.
His visit ended with a formal presentation of the painting which will be proudly displayed at the school
