This week’s action saw South Berkshire Men’s 1st team take on Oxford University in a must-win game to stay in control of their promotion hopes over Haslemere just a point behind in the table.
Losing at halftime 0-1 things weren’t going well for Berkshire until a 47-minute strike from Sam Fox Harvey drew the game level at 1-1. Six Minutes later and Oxford was ahead again, but within 3 minutes Rob Badley clipped home a cross from Fox Harvey to level the scores up again,2-2
With two minutes left on the clock, Berkshire won a short corner, from which Captain Ollie Bruce deflected home for a 3-2 lead, sending the growing crowd at Cantley Park wild with applause. Berkshire survived the final nervous two minutes for an important win in the race for promotion.
With Haslemere winning 10-0 against bottom club Staines, Berkshire remains one point ahead with just two games to go. Next week Berkshire travel to 2nd bottom Havant still needing to win to keep ahead of Haslemere
The Men’s 2nd team fought bravely against Berkhamsted for a 1-1 draw, Sam Coombes with the goal. The point moves Berkshire a small step away from the drop zone and really need to win next week at bottom-placed Thame
The Men’s 3rd team had a good away win at Berkhamsted with a narrow 2-3 win . Tom Pullen and Tim Durance with 2 scoring.The result keeps Berkshire just outside the promotion places with a couple of games to go
The Men’s 4th team after last week claiming the league title had another win, 5-2 at home over Phoenix Reading, with David Badger with 2, Duncan Clarke with 2 and Tom Scott with the goals . With just one game to go Berkshire needs four more goals to hit 100 goals for the season
The Men’s 5th team travelled to Reading needing at least a point to gain promotion or a win and Stoke Green to lose to win the league. Failing behind after 7 minutes, Berkshire hit back with a Chris Davison goal on 22 minutes for 1-1. The score remained the same for the rest of the match , so Berkshire just failed to win the league but gained promotion in the 2nd spot at the expense of Reading.
The Men’s 6th team had a final game against Newbury at home, a fantastic 7-0 win, with goals from Peter de Lange 4, Ajinkya Gothoskak, Jack Hitchens and a rare goal from Matt Roberts, left Berkshire 1 point off the promotion places.
In the Ladies’ section, The 1st team had a massive win away at Oxford University 2-3. Millie Bland, Bello Pio and Sarah Kelly getting the goals. A win at Cantley Park next week against 3rd place Bicester will see Berkshire rise up to the Premier League 2 next season
The Ladies 2nd team had an easy win over the Ladies’ 3rd team 7-0, with Eve Kelly with 3, Helena Badger, Jo Partridge, Pippa Longfield and Chloe Willoughby with goals. The results leave the 2nd team needing 4 points from their last 3 games to gain promotion, alas for the 3rd team with just one point, all-season relegation now is a given.
The Ladies 5th team lost away at Maidenhead, which keeps them in midtable with just one game to go.
