Scores of festive revelers were out in force on Boxing Day in Finchampstead as Yateley Morris Men performed outside the Queens Oak pub.
The ‘Mummers Play’ performance focused on the triumph of life over death, and of good over evil. It is based on the end of one year and birth of a new year.
The performance which took place in Finchampstead, was s based on local texts that originated from nearby Bramshill in North Hampshire. The characters are Father Christmas and his sons who are put to the sword by an anti-hero however, a doctor brings those who are killed back to life.
Yateley Morris Men also performed at a host of pubs throughout Wokingham during the weeks before Christmas. Their festive appearances at the Finchampstead pub are fast becoming an annual tradition..
The group was formed in 1975. They are looking for more members. For information see here.
