I have started a petition at Change.org for the first black British Army Officer & Professional Footballer Walter Tull. The Campaign seeks to raise the profile of the First World Heroe and Tottenham Hotspur Footballer.
It’s a pretty ambitious campaign for Walter Tull where I seek to have him posthumously awarded the medal he was recommended but did not receive owing to the colour of his skin, regulations at that time stopped non-white soldiers from receiving the Miltary Cross. Walter Tull died aged 29 on 25th March 1918 while leading an attack on the Western Front during the Second Battle of the Somme. The Commanding Officer of the 23rd Battalion recommended him for a Military Cross for bravery.

I was so inspired by his story and saddened at the same time that it seemed to have been forgotten in history. I was interviewed for the History Channel which explains in more detail see Interview “THE CAMPAIGN TO AWARD WALTER TULL A MILITARY CROSS”
Today, Walter Tull’s name is becoming more well-known I started a website, WalterTull.org and a Facebook page to raise awareness about Tull’s life as an important inspiration for us all
