A craft and food market was held on Saturday in a bid to unite the community in Arborfield.
The event was the brainchild of ENGAGE, Emerging Neighbourhood Group for Arborfield Green Events, a residents committee that was set up before the COVID pandemic and was resurrected last year. Their first event last summer was a huge success with stalls, a bouncy castle and a visit from the local fire station. A Christmas market was equally well-attended and now they hope to run events on a regular basis.
Local resident and committee member, Sophie Ames, said: “The aim of the events is to bring everyone in the community together and et them know there is something happening in the area. Although lots of houses have gone up there has been nothing in terms of infrastructure. We have been promised a new centre with cafe, vets and pub near Bohunt but nothing has happened.
“We want to give the community a focal point and encourage their involvement to build momentum.”
The craft market had about 25 stalls and they are planning to hold one every second Saturday of the month and hope to build on footfall. However there will not be one in April as they have Easter fun planned on April 1st at the community centre from 10am to 4pm.
