Wednesday 1st Feb 2023 saw nearly half a million workers taking part in strikes, it is thought to be the biggest day of industrial action in a decade. Schools around Wokingham saw teachers striking and demonstrating over pay, conditions and funding. Maiden Erlegh School in Earley, Wokingham/Reading saw teachers join the picket line.

Maiden Erlegh School is a successful comprehensive school for students from 11-18 years old their motto of “opportunity, diversity and success for all” every day. The school achieved “Outstanding” in 2020 for all inspection categories in a Ofsted report . This was great recognition of all the work done by staff at Maiden Erlegh School:
Huge Day of National Action
More than half of schools (51.7%) in England were either partially closed or closed due to teacher strikes today, according to government figures of state-funded primary, secondary and special schools
- A snap poll by the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) of 948 headteachers and principals in England and Wales suggests the vast majority of schools have been affected by the first day of walkouts by teachers
- Teachers in Scotland are taking part in a third week of rolling strikes, with Clackmannanshire and Aberdeen affected today
- Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said children deserve to be in school, as teachers in England and Wales took part on the first national strike since 201
- University lecturers, civil servants and train and bus drivers were also on strike

There will be more strike days across February and March if the Government doesn’t get serious about negotiations. Now is the time for every member to email their MP to back our campaign and press the Government to make an offer to resolve our dispute.
