Dear Jacquie “I hope you don’t mind me messaging you. Can I ask for some advice please? Do dating apps actually work? I been on a lot of apps and never get any matches. Should I just give up on trying to find any one date? I am 35 years old, don’t really have a lot of friends. I moved away from home for work and don’t know anyone where I live now”
Hi, there thank you for your question.
If you are lucky then dating apps do work but is a numbers game. I actually met my own partner online but you have to know it can be like going on a rollercoaster ride. With the ups and downs playing with your emotions.
When you were younger the pool of people you had around you was greater, giving you the chance to meet like-minded people. Then going to work the numbers get smaller. On top of that, moving to a new area is like starting all over again.
When it comes to dating I think a lot of people put pressure on themselves to find “the one”.
Dating is about meeting new people, not interviewing someone for a husband or wife.
You may have a bigger picture in mind but it is about getting out there and having some fun.
Use your dating to just meet new people.
The date might not be your one but you never know who they might know.
The most important thing is to take a chance and push yourself to come out of your comfort zone.
Go for a drink, coffee, or pub, rather than anything to heavy at first, like dinner. That is what the second dates are for.
Have you looked at Meet-up.com, Event bright, and All Events? These websites are there to help people connect even as friends.
You can also have a look at offline dating sites, where they have matchmaking services to discover more about you and help you meet someone new from their own database, arranging introductions. Introducingu2love.co.uk is for the Berkshire area.
Unfortunately, the love of your life is not going to come knocking at your door. Not unless they are delivering the post or a package. It is about taking action to make it happen. Just make sure you are in the driving seat.
I hope that helps.
DATING SURVEY
I know people are disheartened by online dating but I also feel people like to play it safe. I have put together some questions for some market research. Here is the link https://forms.gle/VCxV9CGdxcdM9mWY8
