The Wokingham Job Support Centre (WJSC) is celebrating its 30th anniversary of
providing free support to job seekers in the Wokingham and Bracknell area this
month. Since its launch in 1993, the charity has been dedicated to helping those who
are out of work find new jobs and build essential skills such as interview techniques,
CV writing, and online job searching.
The team of experts at WJSC provide one-to-one coaching, assessment, advice,
support, and training on internet use and specific skills development. The charity
supports all ages and backgrounds, including those over the age of 50 and people
looking to start their own businesses.
Over the past three decades, WJSC has adapted to the changing job market and
increased digitalisation of recruitment processes. One of the most significant
changes has been the emergence of online job boards, such as Indeed, which have
replaced traditional print job advertisements. Social media platforms have also
become increasingly important for job seekers, enabling them to build professional
networks, showcase their skills and experience, and even apply for jobs directly
through the platforms.
With the increasing digitalisation of the recruitment process, it has become more
important than ever for job seekers to have strong digital skills, such as the ability to
use social media, write effective emails, and create digital CVs. This is where
organisations like the Wokingham Job Support Centre come in, providing vital
personalised support and training to help job seekers navigate the changing job
market and stand out from the crowd.
The support provided by the Wokingham Job Support Centre has not only benefited
individuals but also had a positive impact on the community as a whole. The charity’s
efforts contribute to both economic and social benefits, making Wokingham and
Bracknell a great place to live and do business.
WJSC clients have also reported increased well-being, self-worth, self-confidence,
and motivation. One visitor explained in a thank you note: “I am so fortunate to have
been directed to the centre by the Bracknell Job Centre. The help I received during
my initial meeting filled me with a huge amount of confidence, and the advice
regarding my CV was invaluable. I have been able to secure a permanent role at the
age of 50, and in the industry I wanted. I am sure this wouldn’t have happened
without WJSC’s help.”
As a small charity, funded by local councils, the Wokingham Job Support Centre has
made a significant difference in the lives of those it has helped over the past three
decades. The charity continues to provide vital support to job seekers in the
Wokingham and Bracknell area and looks forward to the next 30 years of
empowering individuals and strengthening the community.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate our 30th anniversary and the impact we’ve had
on the lives of those in our community,” said Steven Polak at the Wokingham Job
Support Centre. “We look forward to continuing to provide the essential support and
guidance needed to help individuals find new jobs, build skills, and achieve their
goals.”
Wokingham Job Support Centre is at The Cornerstone, Norreys Avenue, Wokingham, RG40 1UE.
