A change.org petition has been launched that asks Aborfield Green residents to support a changed proposal for a new Arborfield Green Sport & Wellbeing Pavilion
According to the campaign Crest Nicholson have submitted a new planning application for a refurbished Arborfield Green Sports Pitches and New Pavilion.
Martin Prodger who started the campaign writes:
Arborfield Green is a bit of a social desert; there is limited opportunity for people to go to meet up in an attractive welcoming venue for a chat, to have a coffee, to meet new people, to relax and to perform any of a wide variety of activities to support Health & Wellbeing.
The new sports pavilion is going to cost £ 1 million but will only support about 250 sports people playing football, cricket and tennis. To spend that amount of money and only support just 2% of the intended Arborfield population is a travesty.
In a time of environmental concerns, scarcity of resources, rising prices and huge pressures on public bodies to deliver value for money, we no longer have the luxury of commissioning projects that support just so few people.
We petition the Arborfield Green residents to demand from Wokingham Borough Council that this facility should serve as many of the community as possible and this can be achieved through the addition of a cafe and rentable social space, similar to that recently installed at Cantley Park, which will allow for the creation of an independent non-profit making charitable organisation that can generate funds and run the Community Sports Hub on a day-to day basis.
