Last week was a busy one for Wokingham & Emmbrook FC with the club featuring in two cup finals with their Allied and Reserves sides both with their eyes on the silverware.
Allied, made up of 16–18-year-olds, made the journey to Arbour Park, the home of Slough Town, with their opponents being Camberley Town. The Sumas had made the final after a convincing 4-1 win versus Aldershot Academy at the home of Badshot Lea.
The game was very competitive in the opening stages with the Sumas creating several chances, however 20 minutes in their opposition had a dominant attacking spell and going into half time Allied went in 1-5 down, with Robbie Hadleigh getting their goal. After a strong half-time chat in the changing room the Sumas came out fighting, clawing back two goals to make it 3-5, with positivity riding high amongst the team. Camberley were looking fior more though and added two more goals in the final stages to clinch the cup.
As for the Reserves side, a trip to Hartley Witney FC’s ground was booked in for their final as they faced Sheerwater FC. Yet again the Sumas made a bright start as the rain drizzled down with both sides looking to score first. It was Sheerwater who took the lead after a long range shot went passed the keeper, who you could argue was partially obstructed by the bright sunlight shining directly into his eyes. After some refereeing decisions were given or not given for that matter, the Sumas were getting frustrated as they looked to get back into the game. They went in at half-time 2-0 down and with an uphill battle to climb. They did manage to grab a goal back late on but there wasn’t enough time for an equaliser to be found, with Sheerwater lifting the trophy.
It wasn’t the week of results the club would have wanted however everyone at the club is very proud of all the Sumas players and the fact that two finals were even reached shows the level of skills, effort and passion put in by the players.
