Wokingham did itself proud over the Coronation weekend. Between all the flags, bunting and crocheted post-box toppers, the town was awash with red, white and blue. And hundreds of people throughout its towns and villages turned out to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
Neighbours united for street parties, there were picnics in parks or family and friends simply got together in homes and gardens. Despite the typical British weather, it failed to dampen the British spirit.
St.Nicholas in Hurst saw the whole church turned into a tea and cake room for a few hours as a part of the celebrations. The church was packed with the local community turning up for their cream tea afternoon (pictured above).
The Castle Pub in Hurst partied on Coronation day with a live six-piece band called What The Funk playing sounds from the sixties, seventies and eighties. Landlord Matt Brown, who was also celebrating 10 years at the hostelry, said: “We love running this lovely village pub – such nice people live around here and they always support us. We had a wonderful day celebrating the King’s Coronation.” (Pictured below).
And big crowds gathered at St Michael’s and All Angels Church in Spencers Wood on Bank Holiday Monday where there was face-painting, a tug of war, cream teas, Morris dancing and much more. (Pictured below).
