The Avery Collection offers a range of options in the Southern Region. Bagshot Gardens in Surrey recently celebrated its 15 th birthday. The Mayor of Surrey Heath was invited along, together with families of the residents for afternoon tea. Such an event is typical of the care home that welcomes the community in and takes its residents out to the community.
They recently had a visit from the firefighters of White Watch at Camberley who enjoyed a full English breakfast with some of the residents. And an artist-in-residence loves to share her work with them.
They have started a memory café on the first Wednesday of every month, inviting the local community in between 2pm and 4pm for refreshments and activities including games and entertainment, offering a safe space for all.
Sue Ruff, Client Liaison Manager said: “We offer networking and stimulation for our residents, bringing the community to them and taking them out into the community – but we must remember that Bagshot Gardens is first and foremost their home.”
Other activities the residents enjoy include Dogs for Life pet therapy and a mums and toddler group popping in each week. Volunteers run quizzes and board games and they have a dedicated minibus that takes them out into the community for trips to parks, restaurants and the theatre. Visiting the shops, the local pub or park all provide opportunities for residents to exert their independence, enjoy the outdoors and connect
with locals.
The nursing care team at Bagshot Gardens are the heart of the home and has a reputation for providing not only the best in care, but also a lifestyle that supports individuals to lead their best life possible. The team provides care with dignity and warmth and focuses on family, friends and engaging with the community to bring richness to every day.
Well-being stems from living a fulfilling and meaningful life. What that means in practice is unique to each individual. It’s why at Avery, they take the time to engage in Life Story work with each resident, learning about their interests and routines to create opportunities for positive engagement every single day.
With a wealth of activities that support the physical, social and psychological well-being of residents, there really is something for everyone irrespective of their age, health or background. It’s something they pay close attention to by regularly talking to the residents about what they’re passionate about, what they’d enjoy doing more of and how staff can help them achieve their goals.
All of the residents had lives within their communities before they joined the home and they make it a priority to ensure they continue to enjoy those relationships.
