Jac in a Box is the retail arm of the established Just Around The Corner charity that has been supporting young people in the Wokingham area and beyond since 1998.
Jac in a Box is the perfect place for young people who may have fallen out of education or are just looking to gain social and academic confidence.
The shop’s founder was visionary late Chris Pape – she dedicated her life to supporting these groups with everything from clothes & shoes all way up through college prep courses!
They provide young people with the opportunity, support and confidence needed to stand on their own two feet as well-rounded young adults who will one day become productive members of society.
They are committed to providing students with the skills needed for today’s workplace. We offer a range of programs that teach everything from customer service and barista jobs, all the way up through accreditation in food handling!
In addition, we plan on adding math or English classes soon so you can be fully prepared when it comes time to enter your field after graduation.
The young people at Jac in a Box will have learned and achieved things that they never would before. These are all certified qualifications, which means the kids thought it was impossible to achieve these goals elsewhere but with nurturing from staff members like yourself or even just being surrounded by others who are striving for excellence too! It becomes possible!
By working with young people, The Social Store is able to provide individualized programs that are designed for each child’s academic and social needs. These tailored services help ensure the best possible future ahead!
The ‘shop’ sells donated goods only for donations that cover the costs of running the building. A few selected items have suggested minimum donations due to the quality or age of each one.
Most recently they have utilized one of the rooms to become a coffee house which provides a space to relax/read over a cup of coffee or tea at the cost of, yes you’ve guessed it, a donation.
Jac in a Box is an amazing project that has been running for over two years now.
All in all my visit to Jac in a Box was inspiring. There were two young people working at the time one on the reception / till and one serving drinks and doing general tasks.
It was clear from my interactions with both that they had been at the project for a while as they had confidence and competence in doing everything that was expected I was very impressed.
The shop was running with the help of some very dedicated volunteers who were not only providing a valuable service to shoppers but also being kind and patient enough to spend time teaching children how they can be better consumers in future.
