The Wokingham Swimathon is a new team event, organised by Wokingham Lions Club, and designed solely as a means for schools, charities, and local organisations to raise funds, either for themselves or their nominated charity. It’s simple to enter and they get to keep every penny they receive in donations. What is a Swimathon? Well, it’s not a race. Each team swims for 50 minutes in relay format to achieve as many laps of the pool as they can (two lengths = one lap). Adults swim a lap, but young children can swim one length (25 meters), with another child swimming the return length. So why not dig out your walking boots and discover some of the lovely countryside on Wokingham’s doorstep? Indeed, many previous walkers have told Wokingham Lions that they didn’t know that such beautiful and interesting places existed so close to our town. For those who have not taken part before, the walk starts from Elms Field, near Aldi. You can choose to walk either the five, 10 or 15 mile route.
