Representatives of Wokingham Borough Council and the town’s businesses joined artist Richard Young and guests, including the Deputy Borough Mayor Cllr Adrian Mather, at the launch of Wokingham’s first artistic map.
Richard, who runs his gallery at Alexander Court in the town centre, has worked tirelessly to produce the folded map which highlights independent businesses and tourist attractions along the main roads into town.
The launch was timed to coincide with Wokingham’s May Fayre, when thousands flocked to the town and picked up a lasting reminder of how to get around (and where to shop!) on their next visit.
Speaking at the launch, Richard told us: “We created this map to raise awareness of a diverse selection of our independent businesses and attractions, both to residents and visitors to Wokingham town.
“Business maps aren’t entirely new, but they’re still uncommon and ours is different, more artistic, interesting and attractive. We’ve also offered a brief insight into what makes this such a popular place to live, work and visit.”
You can pick up a copy of the map at independent businesses and hotel receptions in the town centre.
