Wokingham Borough Council is proud to have supported R Young Art Gallery in their project to create an artistic map of independent businesses and attractions in Wokingham town.
The beautiful, folded map is drawn by local artist Vic Delaney, who has lived in the borough her whole life.
Richard Young, artist and gallery owner, said: “We created this map to raise awareness of a diverse selection of our independent businesses and attractions, both to residents and visitors to Wokingham town.”
The map has information about the businesses featured, along with our trails, markets and events, as well as facts and history about Wokingham.
Richard added: “Business maps are not new, though ours stands out from all others as being far more artistic and informative, as we wanted it to be valued, collectable and not perceived as an advertisement or flyer. It’s also been excellent in bringing some of our high street business community closer together.”
A total of 50,000 copies have been printed in all and the map is freely available from each of the 39 participating businesses and will shortly be available from hotels in the area.
As well as R Young Art Gallery doing the design and coordination and local artist Vic Delaney doing the artwork, Wokingham Borough Council sponsored the leaflet holders, Jay Printers did the printing and Blandy & Blandy have installed a large feature of the map in their reception.
You can pick up a copy at the 39 participating businesses and Wokingham Town Hall visitor centre, or download the image from the gallery’s website.
