Controversy and disappointment were on the cards for South Berkshire this Saturday.
With an 90-minute journey down to Fareham for this week’s fixture, saw the Berks squad waiting for the green light to travel with the freezing conditions covering the country on Saturday morning making the fixture at best very doubtful.
Finally at just after 12.30 and many text messages ,the game was given the go ahead from the Fareham captain at the pitch, with the match before Berks kicking off at 12.30 ,with assurances being given that the pitch would be playable the Berkshire team set off
With the 60-mile drive done, on arrival the Berks team found that the previous match had in fact been called off, with a corner of the pitch still frozen solid. After nearly 40 minutes of talks and checking of the pitch the game was called off and Berkshire would have to return another day.
In reality in game should have never been given the go ahead, saving the Berkshire team an 120-mile round trip for nothing.
Amazingly four fixtures did take place.
The Ladies 1st team dropped their first home points with a 2-2 draw against 4th place Oxford, Emily Yorke-Goldney and Sarah Kelly scoring. The Ladies stay in second.
The Men’s 2nd team lost again ,going down 3-1 at Amersham, Michael Armor with the goal.
The Men’s 4th team chalked up their 10th win of the season with an 2-0 away win at Henley, Duncan Clarke and Rob Grant scoring . They stay top a massive 11 points clear
The Men’s 5th had a great 5-0 away win at Amersham ,Jack Hitchens with 2, Dave Gilmore, Peter Large and Craig Osbourne hitting the goals They remain in 3rd, 7 points off top spot but with three games in hand.
