People came from far and wide to the Hurst animal rescue centre in Nelson Lane, Hurst, on Good Friday for a day full of Easter fun.
Visitors could browse the DBARC expanded pet accessories shop or get involved in the activities including the egg hunt challenge, egg and spoon agility course, childrens’ raffle, paper plate art competition, doggy treat pick ‘n’ mix, Easter photo booth, DBARC tours and refreshments.
A spokesman for the centre said: “Thank you so much to everyone who came to support our very first Easter egg-stravaganza! We hope you all had a brilliant time exploring the centre as well as helping us raise some much-needed funds for the animals in our care. On behalf of the whole DBARC team, we all hope you have a happy Easter and we’ll see you at the next one!”
The Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre, formerly the Animal Rescue group, was founded more than 50 years ago. The charity was kept at the home of Mrs. Brimblecombe who was awarded the MBE for service to animal rescue, helping thousands of unwanted animals over the years. It is almost impossible to raise the funds necessary to keep the rescue even ticking over, but some incredibly generous legacies enabled the charity to seek a permanent, independent site for a properly equipped rescue centre where the animals could receive the best of care, and in May 2003 they relocated to Hurst, where the animals are accommodated in specially-adapted and purpose-built accommodation on a 13-acre site.
Now an oasis for rescued animals who are looking for their forever home in the heart of Berkshire, their Good Friday Easter celebrations went down a treat in the sunshine.
